The Discovery Islands are a hidden gem on the Sunshine Coast north of Powell River; an area with stunning views, deep glacial inlets, an abundance of wildlife and relatively sheltered waters. For 6 days you will be completely submerged in nature and soak up the beauty of the area.
Paddle through glacier-shaped inlets, get chased by seals and pitch your tent on a small island. Wake up to the sound of a Bald Eagle and finish the day with a stunning sunset.
This unique tour is designed for the intermediate paddler who is comfortable paddling 15 to 22 km (up to 6hrs.) per day and back-country camping in more remote areas. We provide kayak and camping gear including all healthy meals. Your seasoned guides have extensive knowledge of the area and are dedicated to give you a one-of-a-kind, enjoyable and safe experience.
A maximum of 10 – 12 Nautical Miles (approx. 18 – 22km / 11 – 14mi) per paddling day. Distance will also depend on group preferences and goals, weather conditions, currents and tides. It takes some time to complete packing and a pre-tour instruction on the first day of the tour, we aim to be back between 3pm and 4pm on the final day. It will speed up the start of a tour if Medical Information Forms and Liability Waivers are filled out and signed prior to the tour.
Paddle routes during this tour are within the sheltered class 2 waters of Desolation Sound and beyond. However, during this tour you might be exposed to some wind, waves, mild currents and boat wakes. Your guide will choose the route most appropriate for weather, tides, mild currents and group.
Camping will take place within a wilderness setting, with no additional facilities such as tent-platforms and outhouses.
This tour is designed for guests who are comfortable spending time in the outdoors without any additional facilities.
