Description
During this 7hr. tour we’ll explore Desolation Sound Marine Parks most southern section, Grace Harbour / Malaspina Inlet. We’ll start this tour on Desolation Sound Resort’s private kayak launch area with an instructional session on paddle strokes and kayak-safety.
Tour Highlights
Desolation Sound is BC’s largest Provincial Marine Park. A rugged shoreline, charming islands and islets, towering mountains, sheltered bays, rich natural beauty and a vivid cultural history makes Desolation Sound a world class kayak destination. Malaspina Inlet connects Okeover Inlet with Desolation Sound seamlessly and the mild ocean-currents provide the nutrient rich waters on which local wildlife thrives. Bald Eagles sit patiently in a treetop, kelp swirls with the current, seals haul out on a temporarily exposed rock. Grace Harbour is also known as Kath Kay Kay to the Tla’amin nation and has been part of their traditional lands for many thousands of years. We always approach this rich first nation history with dignity and respect.
Duration / Distance
7 hours / Max. 8 Nautical Miles (approx. 14km / 9mi). Distance will also depend on group preferences and goals, weather conditions and tides. It takes roughly 30 minutes to complete the pre-tour instruction. We’ll be out, lunch break included, for about 6.5 hours after that. It will speed up the start of a tour if Liability Waivers are filled out and signed prior to the tour.
