5 Hour Kayak Tour | Okeover Explorer

Description

During this 5hr. tour you’ll explore and learn about the natural and cultural history of Okeover Inlet. We’ll start this tour on Desolation Sound Resort’s private kayak launch area with an instructional session on paddle strokes and kayak-safety. On a warm summer day, lunch break would be the perfect time to go for a swim. Or even better, grab a snorkel-mask and get up and close with our local ‘rock-stars’ and other colourful critters in the tidal zone.

Tour Highlights

Okeover Inlet is a sheltered tidal Inlet, surrounded by a dense temperate forest. Some of the Discovery Islands, parts of Desolation Sound Marine Park and the rugged snow-capped Coastal Mountains can be seen in the distance. This inlet is known for it’s abundance in shellfish, a rich First Nation and vibrant immigrant history and it offers an unrivalled intertidal spectacle during lower tides. Bald Eagles, pacific salmon, seals, river otters, black bears and many other animals call this inlet and its surroundings their home. Occasionally, a group of killer whales visits the inlet. Wildlife viewings often depend on season and tides. But if they’re out there, we’ll find them.

Duration / Distance

5 hours / Max. 6 Nautical Miles (approx. 10km / 6mi). Distance will also depend on group preferences and goals, weather conditions and tides. It takes roughly 30 minutes to complete the pre-tour instruction. We’ll be out, lunch break included, for about 4.5 hours after that. It will speed up the start of a tour if Liability Waivers are filled out and signed prior to the tour.
