Single-Day Kayak Tours

A Copeland Adventure (6hr.) - A Shore-Lunch Package is Optional

During this 6hr. tour we’ll head out to the Copeland Islands Provincial Marine Park, located just north of Lund. We’ll start this tour in Lund with an instructional session on paddle strokes and kayak-safety.

This is our absolute favourite sea-kayak day-tour destination on BC’s Northern Sunshine Coast. This unique archipelago consists of about 18 islands, islets and exposed rocks with narrow passages, quant little bays and a colourful intertidal zone. Coast Salish First Nations have been visiting and using these islands since time immemorial, and significant cultural- and ecological sites are still visible within the landscape.

Named after US Civil War veteran Joe Copeland, a colourful person, who homesteaded in the Desolation Sound area and enjoyed going camping on these islands with his dog. Locals will also refer to these cherished islands as the ‘Ragged Islands’ or ‘Raggeds’.

The Copeland Islands are deeply connected and rooted in, what we refer to as, the greater Desolation Sound area. This is the best kayak day-tour destination in the Desolation Sound area!

BC has grown up around the Salish Sea. The beauty of the surrounding mountains, the islands, the inlets, the marine life and the isolation of the coastal areas attract visitors from around the world. The Copeland Islands archipelago is situated in the most northern waters of the strait and consists of a string of islands and islets and offers spectacular views in all directions. These are the breeding grounds for many species of birds. Seals and seasonally sea lions haul out on exposed rocks. Lately, Humpback Whales and Killer Whales are frequenting this area more and more. Seeing these majestic marine mammals would be a big bonus off course.

Optional activities (during the lunch break): swimming or snorkeling. Bring your own gear, towels etc.

A shore-lunch is optional during this day-tour.

6 hours / Max. 8 Nautical Miles (approx. 14km / 9mi). Distance will also depend on group preferences and goals, weather conditions and tides. It takes roughly 30 minutes to complete the pre-tour instruction. We’ll be out, lunch break included, for about 5.5 hours after that. It will speed up the start of a tour if Liability Waivers are filled out and signed prior to the tour.
