2021 | Sea Kayak Lesson – the Basic Skills Package
Did you just purchase a new kayak or are you thinking about renting a kayak for a day this summer? Or, did you dust off your old kayak and do you feel a little rusty on your ‘after winter’ skill level? And, you hardly can’t wait to get out there and explore BC’s magical coastal wilderness? Maybe this hands-on and skill (re)building lesson could be a good start of spending a great summer in the outdoors.
- Description
June is kayak skills practice month! Learn some exiting new skills or improve some existing ones. We’ll guide you through the the steps of getting safely on and off the water. During this day we’ll extensively touch base and go through kayak-parts and -terminology, pre-trip planning, safety precautions, gear & equipment choices, entering and exiting a kayak, different kayak-strokes and eventually the moment we’ve all been waiting for: a ‘wet-exit’, followed by an assisted- and self-recovery.
- Goals
Learning goals often are very personal, and we’ll adjust the day to those personal goals, and at the end of the day you will have improved on your skill level and you will have raised your confidence level. Our professional goal as Footprint is to get participants to a skill-level where they can join other sea kayakers, guided or self-guided, during a day-trip in Level 1 – 2 coastal waters.
- Duration
6 hours, off- and on-water sessions. It will speed up the start of a lesson if Liability Waivers are filled out and signed prior to the lesson.
- Age restrictions / Height & Weight Limits
This lesson is available for participants which are 19 years or older.
In order to ensure your comfort and safety, participants who have primary control of the kayak (the ones with the rudder pedals) should be of sufficient age, height, weight and maturity to do so.
Please note: Your kayak coach will always have the authority to make the final decision on kayak configuration and safety related issues. ‘Safety first, learning and fun will follow.’
